hotographers ask me how to photograph at night. My answer is that I do not photograph at night.

Why? I hate how it looks. Instead I prefer to incorporate elements of ambient light to make my “night time” looking images stand out

Sometimes capturing what you want simply doesn’t happen when you snap the shutter.

Learn how I create what I want in post by combining images, and manipulating expression to create exactly what I hoped to capture at the time the shutter was snapped.

This image was captured during my Finding the Light class at Shutterfest 2018, and was well received by thousands of photographers. During my class, I spoke to 50+ photographers who all followed me as I was photographing different subjects in various locations. I stated that I scope out the light…how I will compose, and more importantly…how I will “Make it Sing” during post processing. Every single thing I do during a shoot is done for a reason, and post processing is also part of those reasons. This image was captured in a very simple location outdoors, and only natural light ( no reflectors) was used to light this portrait.

After many many requests, I am finally releasing tutorials utilizing Lightroom CC 100%! Although I feel all images need some sort of core editing ( exposure, white balance, or sharpening ), I believe what makes an image sing, and fine tunes a signature style is creative editing.

The art of making a soft material appear hard

Every sculptor battles these things when it comes to hard-surface objects: Things made to look like metal, stone, or other hard material. It's one thing to sculpt an organic human body or creature, where nothing is straight and where imperfections can be forgiven. Sculpting straight surfaces is another animal. But like anything, workflow and technique can make you successful with sculpting straight surfaces.

Fabric is a fun challenge for the traditional sculptor. Distinct characteristics like wrinkles and folds are easy enough to shape, but to refine them appropriately to represent different kinds of fabric takes practice.

In our sculpting class, we'll dive deep into the intricate world of mold-making.

Not only will I introduce you to essential terminology, but you'll also have the hands-on experience of witnessing the creation of several mold types that were previewed in our introductory session.
