I saw her speak in 1992 in New Zealand. There were two Women photographers in my country at the time competing at an international level in Photography Awards but both of them were wedding photographers. Outside of them, Joyce was the first female photographer that I knew of that was very successful.

Not that gender matters now, but as a 22-year-old girl I sat in awe of this extraordinary artist, her feminine work, and the beauty that literally exudes out of her. My life was changed at that moment.

25 years later I am interviewing this woman and asking her to be a keynote presenter at The Portrait Masters in September 2018. What I was not expecting, all fangirling aside, was the impact meeting her and spending a few hours with her would have on the grown-up me again she changed my world.
