Tahan is an influencer who from time to time gives Peter a call to help with the content for her social media accounts, this shoot should have been one of their typical ‘insta fashion’ shoots but the stylist supplied by Tahan decided it was his shoot not Peter’s, which dragged the shoot out & made it much more complicated than it needed to be.

Lottie has been getting predominantly e-commerce work from her agency, and wants to take her modelling in a more edgy fashion direction, so she came to the studio for a shoot with Peter to get some new shots for her folio to attract the type of work she is after. She found some reference shots of the looks she likes, and styled herself to suit, and then Peter built the lighting around this as well as trained her on the shoot to get out of the habit of e-comm modelling.

The Gnomon Workshop - VFX for Games: Creating a Fantasy Scene
The Gnomon Workshop - VFX for Games: Creating a Fantasy Scene
https://thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/vfx-for-games-creating-a-fantasy-scene

  • Follow along to create a floating fantasy scene for Unreal Engine using Houdini, Mixamo, Photoshop, and Character Creator. The workflow, tools, and principles taught have been used by Senior VFX Artist Keagan Williams on videogame titles such as Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
  • The goal of this workshop is to guide you through the creation of the fantasy scene demonstrated by Keagan while also empowering you with the skills you need to efficiently, flexibly, and beautifully develop and express your own creative ideas.
  • Primarily aimed at beginner to mid-level artists, this workshop is ideal for those looking to create real-time VFX portfolio pieces, particularly those that go beyond basic particle systems. The scene demonstrated through this workshop features a central VFX element, and Keagan also touches on the worlds of Houdini’s KineFX and Vellum, as well as stylized hair, lighting, blueprints, and more. Some basic Houdini and Unreal Engine knowledge is recommended.
  • Tackling tricky VFX sequences involves an initial investment of time; however, you’ll discover that the techniques demonstrated will open you up to much greater creative freedom on your own projects.
  • You can follow along using the character demonstrated in this workshop; alternatively, you can create or use your own. When following along with this tutorial, we recommend downloading the (free) Mixamo characters and animations as referenced by Keagan. Additionally, Keagan has provided the files needed for almost everything else seen in the workshop.

Jonas covers the very basics of Blender, including navigation and modeling, and also delves into some more advanced plugins like Hardops, BoxCutter, and so on.
  • In addition to Jonas’s demonstrations, he offers industry insights from his own career history, including what to expect when you are a young artist trying to get into the industry. He also offers his personal tips for staying motivated when for those already in the industry who may be feeling a little stuck.
  • By the end of the workshop, you’ll have developed the skills needed to convert a 2D sketch into a 3D scene by creating 3D assets to speed up the process efficiently. Jonas’s Blender scene file and Photoshop file are included with this workshop to provide full visibility into how the final scene was created.

The Gnomon Workshop - The Techniques of Syd Mead 1
The Gnomon Workshop - The Techniques of Syd Mead 1
https://thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/the-techniques-of-syd-mead-1
Syd's first title introduces the student to the principles of creating thumbnail sketches and subsequent line drawings in the process of creating a successful composition. Topics illustrated include establishing value using only shades of black, and then using those shades to identify levels of detail in the composition, including vehicles, architecture, people and foliage. He guides the viewer through the process of choosing appropriate camera angles, and determining the geometry of the image. Syd goes through the process of defining proportion, the horizon line, the vanishing point, perspective and the ground plane, resulting in a series of sketches ready for further development.
