Udemy - Practical game design - A masterclass with Pascal Luban pt.1
From what end should you start designing a video game? The correct answer is to define its gameplay first. But how to proceed? A game system is like a complex clockwork, with many components interacting with each other. Designing a solid game system can be daunting. However, each component is simple to understand, and if you know how to design them, you can build a coherent and effective game system. In this class, I will teach you how to make the critical choices for each component: What are the key components you need to design? What are the fundamental rules you must follow to design them? In which order should you design them to build a coherent game system? I use plenty of examples to help you understand the concepts. To help you design your game, I provide exercises and a unique tool: A checklist to ensure you ask the right questions and don’t forget key aspects of a solid game system. What I will share with you is based on my 29+ years of experience as a game designer. I worked as the lead designer on numerous home consoles and mobile games: Alone In The Dark - The New Nightmare, two Splinter Cell games, Wanted - Weapons of Fate, Fighters Uncaged, etc. I was also a design consultant for some of the most professional studios and publishers: Activision, DICE, Sony, Pixel Federation, and Bohemia Interactive.
