Revolutionize your After Effects workflow with Control Groups, a powerhouse organizational tool designed to bring the speed and precision of real-time strategy games to motion design. Whether you are managing hundreds of layers or jumping between complex compositions, Control Groups provides a seamless, keyboard-driven interface that eliminates the friction of manual navigation, allowing you to focus entirely on the creative process.

At its core, Control Groups allows you to group layers or specific "locations" (points in time within any comp) and recall them instantly using customizable keyboard shortcuts. By assigning items to one of ten slots per "Space," you can manage up to 100 unique groups across ten different spaces. This "world-first" location management system means you no longer need to hunt through the timeline; a simple double-click or shortcut takes you exactly where you need to be, regardless of how deep a layer is nested within your project.
The tool features a highly dynamic, minimalist UI that is both resizable and animated. It provides instant visual and auditory feedback, utilizing professional soundboards like "Kalimba Bottle" and "Halous" to help you build muscle memory. For those who prefer a structured environment, "Sort Mode" keeps your groups in a fixed order, while the more flexible "Free Mode" allows for custom drag-and-drop arrangements. This flexibility extends to the aesthetics as well, with over 60 custom icons and naming options for every group and space, ensuring your workspace is as organized as it is beautiful.
One of the standout features is the dedicated, event-driven Undo/Redo system. Independent of After Effects’ native history, this project-aware system allows you to rewind group edits, selections, and navigation movements without affecting your actual design work. It even remembers your timeline position and composition history across different sessions. From Stream Deck support to advanced modifiers that allow for adding, removing, or overwriting groups on the fly, Control Groups is the ultimate productivity suite for any professional motion designer looking to master their project management.
