  •  Learn to conceptualize and illustrate characters in 3D  Fernando Aguilera, illustrator and 3D artist, never tires of exploring new tools and ways to bring his characters to life. Both for his professional assignments and his personal projects, he always tries to optimize resources to obtain impeccable results.  In this course, discover his character-conceptualization and modeling process, learning several tricks to reduce rendering and modeling times using the new Maya 2017 tools beyond the conventional outline of the work process.

  • Step into the world of 3D character creation with “Character Modelling in Maya”, a Domestika course led by illustrator and 3D generalist Fer Aguilera Reyes. With more than 5 hours and 19 minutes of video instruction across 26 lessons, this intermediate-level class teaches you how to bring imaginative characters into full 3D using Maya.  Fer begins by sharing his inspirations and the core ideas behind his signature project “Mambacore.” Then he guides you through setting up your Maya workspace and project folders so your workflow remains clean and intuitive. “T-pose.” Lessons cover mask and topology strategies (Masks I & II), building the body, arms, hands, and additional elements like props, feathers, or other accessories. Fer uses instance, MASH tools, and pattern strategies to create repeated elements efficiently (like feathers) in a way that keeps your scene manageable.  Once your model is near completion, he shows you how to rig parts (body, feathers), pose the character, and finalize details like wires, stands, and environmental supports. The course then transitions into rendering setup—lighting, materials, multi-passes—and post-production in Photoshop to polish your final piece.
