As you know, natural light is Sue’s first love and mastering it is one of the greatest things you can learn. Her new studio has inconsistent natural light windows and she had to learn how to control that light to get the results that she wanted.

This video from the Live Archive was shot at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdowns and quarantines were sweeping the globe. Before getting into the class she has prepared, Sue offers words of encouragement, reminding everyone that they can still practice photographing themselves and their family and roommates they are quarantined with. Also, in doing so, everyone will be prepared to go back to work when it is possible to re-open their businesses under restriction.

For this course I am in the foothills of the Italian Dolomites at Graphistudio’s Castello Ceconi. I absolutely love this shoot, and I had to work hard for the results. The winds picked up, the clouds disappeared, the sun was sitting high noon… I found myself in the most beautiful places on earth with some of the worst lighting conditions you could ask for.

I used the same girl in every pose of this tutorial, but I cannot wait to do this with a large group or family. I plan to explore this further with more props and backgrounds in future projects.

I will showcase my methods that will showcase how to tackle it all with ease! During this tutorial, I will showcase my method for achieving good skin tones during the photo shoot, and fine tuning  during post processing. I will go over ALL skin tones in various lighting ( within various natural lighting, and an example with created light). With this tutorial, you will learn my method step by step, but I will also simplify the basic steps I will show you and provide each purchaser with a Photoshop Action or Adobe Lightroom preset to shorten your post processing time.

This is a signature look for me! The beauty of this signature look that I am showing you is that, it was created in post! Here’s what inspired it… Often I see photographers who attempt to photograph at night, and the background is just black with the respect of any bokeh that may be in the background. They lose that tiny quality of ambient light in the air that gives the background DEPTH. Depth is a huge part of my work. In this tutorial, I show you exactly how to achieve an eye catching colorful night time image if it didn’t come out of the camera that way. This tutorial is SIMPLE, and straight to the point. It is a GREAT tool to have in your arsenal.
