As she learned to market her business better over the years she used to say “I am a contemporary portrait photographer, with a fashion magazine style.” Everything about what she wanted to communicate and project was in this sentence. In the last 10 years, Vanity Fair has stepped forward with some of the best celebrity style portraits we have ever seen. This is why Sue has created the Vanity Fair Style genre. It’s stunning, high fashion portraiture.

For those of you who shoot on-location instead of in a studio, Sue wanted to show you that you really don’t need a lot to make an on-location shoot work beautifully. For this photo shoot of Caitie, Sue walked around a neighborhood and found different spots that worked really well. They were nothing fancy at all — a cement wall, in the middle of the street, a big flower bush, and some ivy. All you need for a shoot like this is some sort of scrim, if it is sunny, and a reflector. If there isn’t any wind, you can have someone use a piece of cardboard as a fan for movement in the hair.

In the Posing lessons, Sue covers one of the most important subjects, POSING. Sue discusses the fundamentals of posing – from body language, body types, and thoughtful composition, to working in standing, sitting, and lying down positions, and more. Mastering posing is so important because if you go into a shoot knowing how to pose your client with confidence, they, too, will become more confident. This allows for a more seamless, fun shoot which will produce stunning portraits that your client will love for years to come!

The fashion pose is all about length and triangles. It’s a more contemporary pose with absolutely stunning results! The key is to lock down the pose first and then you can freestyle from there. In the Fashion Pose course, Sue walks you through different variations of the fashion pose. First, you will see Tee’s shoot. Tee is long and lean, so with her, it is all about the triangles! Learn how Sue gets a nice base with Tee and then is able to freestyle after that base is locked in.

Join Sue today as we explore shooting on dark backgrounds and creating moody looks without harsh shadows. We’ll use tunnels, blocking, and reflection to bend natural light to create more depth and contrast in your images while maintaining a soft filtered light on your subject’s face. Typically a beauty pose is some sort of headshot, but you will often see most of the beauty shots in fashion magazines have some form of hands or elbows in the photo as well. The first step is to master the foundation. Then, Sue will show you a few different variations of the beauty pose so you can get a different feel from each shot. In this mini-course, you can tune in to Shauna’s shoot to learn how to master the Beauty Pose with a gorgeous curvy client. Then, you will see Sue photograph the gorgeous Tee. This will help you learn how to pose a long, lean body. There are so many tips and tricks in this mini-course that you won’t want to miss.

If you are building your folio without a studio and live in an area where you have a forest, beach, or a beautiful park, you can create gorgeous contemporary images for your Folio. Or maybe you’re just a little bored with the studio look and you want to take it outside. This session is all about finding the light, the best backdrops, poses that don’t need boxes or chairs, lots of flow, personality, and the use of fabric for movement to create interesting dimensions in your compositions.
