Tom Casey How to Compress Drums The Basics
TUTORiAL | 85 MB
Compression can control the dynamic range of a sound
For a drum kit, this oftentimes brings out the detail, including the decay of a snare drum, the sound of the room the drums are in, and other details to the sound
This tutorial uses Pro-C2 for its visual component, but you can follow along with almost any compressor plugin
The only things I am adjusting are the attack and ratio - this tells the compressor when to act on the sound and by how much compression should be applied
The end of the video I also cover headroom - something you need to be aware of if you are using sample packs in your music
Please ask questions in DM's or the community chats if you need to!
If there is a specific audio engineering topic you'd like covered, let me know!!
If you found this video difficult to understand, please let me know, as I'm always happy to make sure people understand compression in the simplest terms and can start trying it with their own sounds
