CloudRig is a powerful, production-grade rig generation and workflow enhancement add-on for Blender, developed and maintained by Blender Studio as part of their open movie pipeline. What began as an extension to Blender’s existing Rigify system has evolved into a full-featured, standalone tool for creating complex character rigs with minimal manual setup.

At its core, CloudRig dramatically simplifies the rigging process by automating the creation of control rigs from a simple input skeleton called a metarig. Users start by building a basic guide armature that reflects the character’s proportions. CloudRig then procedurally generates a complete animation rig — including helper bones, constraints, and drivers — based on that metarig. This saves riggers countless hours of tedious manual setup, letting them focus on design and animation rather than repetitive technical tasks.
