Designed by Malou Verlomme of the Monotype Studio, Macklin is a superfamily, which brings together several attention-grabbing styles. Macklin is an elegant, high contrast typeface that demands its own attention and has been design purposely to enable brands to appeal more emotionally to modern consumers. Macha shares the same DNA as its sibling Anago, but is a completely different species than the former or any of my other sans serifs (Aaux Next, Air, Akagi Pro or Wasabi). It’s no-nonsense construction bears many influences from Gill Sans and Frutiger while stubbornly blending my own humanist touch. The focus on developing Macha was just to get to the point with each letterform and discard the rest.

The Dutch word “leuk" translates loosely to English as pleasant, jolly, funny, witty, clever, nice, sweet, kind, nice, amusing, entertaining, and funny.Leuk, the font, is a small, highly legible font with a witty, sociable personality that engages it’s readers.My challenge in designing Leuk was to find a unique feature to set apart the font without losing the fundamentals of type design. In the process of doing so, I created a virtual font “smile and wink” in the “o” upper and lowercase with integrated stencil-connecting strokes within the “a,e, k, z, o, ß” to reveal Leuk’s calligraphic roots.

Leafco is a type of font with a decorative nature look. Leafco include a full set of large and small letters as well as multi-lingual and currency support, numbers, punctuation, alternatives, binders and some additional glyphs.

The result is a sans serif, geometric, modern typeface with classical Roman proportion in the uppercase letters; two stylistic sets for lowercase letters (setKoch and setRenner), rational, open and sharp ends. The signature alphabet of one of New York’s most significant buildings becomes a family of clear and colorful display fonts.Bierut commissioned a new alphabet from Hoefler & Co. inspired by letters found on the building itself. The words “LEVER HOUSE” on the Park Avenue window had a spare and manifest geometry which was shared by the inscription on the building’s cornerstone, together shaping the direction of the Landmark typeface. Of vital importance was that the typeface succeed in all capitals, in keeping with the architectural aesthetic, and that it satisfy a range of applications and materials, from large-scale steel signs to ADA-compliant elevator panels cast in resin.In preparation for its release, Hoefler & Co. revisited the original Landmark typeface with additional variations in mind. Thinking about the material qualities of architectural lettering, and how it responds to changes in light and perspective, prompted three new designs: a keen Inline, a contemplative Shadow, and a dazzling Dimensional.
