Description

Welcome to CapCut: A Complete Guide.

A Note to Users

CapCut updated its Terms of Use in June 2025. For that reason, I recommend reading and fully understanding the new terms before deciding to use the software.

Here is a clear summary of why many users have raised concerns following the Terms of Service update on June 12, 2025:

1. Permanent, Irrevocable License Over Your Content

By uploading or syncing any content, including drafts or clips stored in the cloud, you may grant CapCut (and ByteDance) a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, modify, distribute, monetize, and even resell your content without compensation or additional permission.

This license may remain in effect even if you delete your account or remove your content.

2. Rights to Your Likeness, Voice, and Biometric Data

The update states that CapCut may use your name, image, voice, and biometric data, such as facial recognition or voice patterns, in promotions or advertising without compensation or prior approval.

This may raise serious privacy concerns, especially for journalists, public figures, and other users handling sensitive content.

3. Non-Confidentiality of Uploaded Content

Content uploaded to the platform may be treated as non-confidential, meaning it could potentially be shared broadly, including with third parties and across ByteDance platforms such as TikTok.

4. Liability Shifts and Future Changes

Users are required to accept broad liability waivers, making them responsible for the content they upload.

CapCut also reserves the right to change pricing, subscription plans, features, or terms at any time, and continued use of the platform may be treated as acceptance of those changes.

5. Content Use Restrictions and Monetization Risk

Built-in assets such as templates, stock footage, music, filters, and stickers may be restricted for commercial use unless you have a Pro license or explicit permission.
