Karl Taylor - Legs Up Fashion | Post-Production
https://visualeducation.com/class/legs-up-fashion-shoot-post-production/

Follow Karl step by step through his retouching and editing process in this sequel to Legs Up Fashion Shoot.

He begins by selecting two images to work with, each one containing elements he wants to use in the final one. To combine them, he uses layer masks, rubbing through to incorporate parts of each one into a new merged layer.

You’ll see Karl use the nudge command, the distort tool and the liquify tool, as well as the healing brush and the clone stamp tool. He goes on to use the lasso tool, add noise and Gaussian blur, and make colour corrections by adjusting hue and saturation.

In addition to burning and dodging to boost contrast and three-dimensionality where necessary, Karl creates a solar curve to help him spot any final fixes.

By watching a master at work, you’ll pick up a host of useful tricks and improve your post-production workflow.

Karl Taylor Photography - Legs Up Fashion Shoot
https://visualeducation.com/class/legs-up-fashion-shoot/

Looking to imitate strong sunlight in the studio? In this fashion photography class, Karl uses a bare bulb to do just that.  As Karl sets up the lighting, he combines the bare-bulb key light with fill lights bouncing illumination off the ceiling and cove. The goal is to achieve vivid lighting and strong shadows to really make the image pop.  Model Suzannah wears stylish crocodile print as she poses against a pastel-coloured floor and backdrop. Karl works meticulously to ensure Suzannah holds just the right pose, with her legs extended up as she reclines with her handbag by her side.  Shooting tethered, Karl repositions the key light and makes exposure, focus and focal length adjustments to get the shot just right.  This class offers a great demonstration of how to achieve stunning sunlit fashion images without setting foot outside the studio.

Lindsay Adler - Headshot Lighting Recipe Guide
https://learn.lindsayadlerphotography.com/product/headshot-lighting-recipe-guide/

Headshots are a staple of business for many portrait photographers. While they may seem relatively straightforward, there is actually quite a lot you can change particularly when varying the lighting. As you select your lighting you’ll need to make decisions that flatter your subject and help to communicate their personal brand.  The Headshot Lighting Recipe Guide consists of 21 ‘recipes’ for a variety of headshot lighting setups, and as with any recipe, you can add in your own twist to create something unique or catered toward your subject!  Some setups are more high key with lighter tones, lighter background and fewer shadows. Other setups are more low key with darker tones, darker background and more shadows. No one setup is better than the other. As mentioned above, the ‘right light’ depends on a combination of the mood that your subject wants to convey about themselves and the lighting that best flatters their features

Karl Taylor Photography - Portraits of People Wearing Glasses
https://visualeducation.com/class/portraits-of-people-wearing-glasses/

In this LIVE photography workshop, now available to watch as a replay, Karl answers a question posed by many of our members over the years: how do I take effective portraits of people wearing glasses?  The primary challenge is, of course, how to achieve satisfactory illumination of the subject’s face while avoiding distracting reflections from the lenses. In this workshop, Karl shows you how.  He begins by introducing the key laws of physics that dictate how light works. He also addresses common solutions to the problem (including removing the lenses and using a polarising filter) and explains why they are not the best approaches.  You’ll see Karl demonstrate a simple three-light setup. He experiments with softboxes and a beauty dish, and shows you how to use a triflector to ease shadows under the chin.  Most importantly, he demonstrates the importance of understanding angles of incidence and reflection, and how the position and intensity of your key light source makes all the difference.  The result is a series of high-quality, business-style portraits of subjects wearing glasses, with no glaring reflections in the lenses.

She uses this to give her creative images a whole new level of depth and dimension.  This “50% Grey Layer technique” stands apart from Photoshop’s default dodge and burn tools by creating a non-destructive, cleaner editing process.  These non-destructive editing layers allow you to work independently of your original image, without introducing colour or tonal flaws which are often seen with the default tools.
