This tutorial is all about creating dark and moody photos full of atmosphere. I show you my creative photo editing workflow for the photo Dark Passage and you will learn how I add fog into the scene, how I darken the photo while preserving details and how I work on contrast and color to create more depth.

Tutorial Content

The complete tutorial is 43 minutes in length. For a better viewing experience I have split it into 5 sections. This way it's easy to revisit interesting parts of the workflow and to incorporate a selection of the techniques into the processing of your photos. Other than my longer start to finish tutorials, I only focus on the creative part of the processing here.

After a short introduction video, which you can watch below, the next two parts focus on adding realistic fog into the photo. Next I make the photo more moody before I finish it up through selective contrast and color work.

Throughout the complete processing I explain why I perform certain adjustments and how they affect the impact of the final image.
