What do you need to start drawing and learn art and illustration? Just paper and pencil. We're not going to get to fancy in this first class. We will start with the very basics about how everything we are going to draw is made up of simple shapes. 2D shapes like squares, circles and triangles and also 3d shapes like spheres, cylinders, cubes and cones.
We will learn how to take the basic shapes and combine them to show how they are used in many of the objects around us. This is called construction. It's a way of understanding the basic building blocks of all our drawings and illustrations.
Drawing heads can be a bit tricky if you're just starting out in art but it's using different pricnciples that makes it easy.We will use basic shapes to build more complex shapes. We are going to be learning the skeletal drawing technique in this tutorial. By tracing out photos we will see how to pose the human body. We also touch on proportions and the 7 head principle. Drawing in perspective is pretty easy to pick up and an essential skill that we will be building on in future lessons. It helps with drawing backgrounds. it helps with drawing characters and objects in a scene. It can also get tricky as objects get more complicated. How do you draw circles in perspective? How do you draw angled lines in perspective? How to you draw cars in perspective? Buildings? furniture? Rooms? Giraffes? We will break down how to use basic shapes to construct more complex illustrations.
