  • We’re excited to roll out the biggest update in Gamut history. Our BaseLUTs have long been a cornerstone for filmmakers—built for accurate color, balanced skin-tones, and a solid foundation for grading. Now, they’ve evolved.

What’s New

BaseLUTs 2.0 combines the tactile insights of analog shooting with cutting-edge technology. Over the past six months, we tested nearly 40 cameras in real-world environments to understand how each sensor handles color. Then we trained a machine learning model on our findings to create per-sensor color conversions—making it possible to not only preserve true skin tones and saturated colors, but also to accurately color-match footage across different camera brands and sensors.

Now, you can match a RED Komodo to a Sony FX30 or even a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 seamlessly.

Why This Matters

This new approach means your footage will look consistent no matter what camera you’re using. It’s not just a conversion—it’s a calibrated starting point for every sensor, tailored to the real-world characteristics of each device.

Already Own BaseLUTs?

You’re good—your current BaseLUTs still work as they always have. But moving forward, new BaseLUTs will be built at the sensor level, offering more precision and better cross-camera matching. For instance, if you are using the original BaseLUTs for Canon Log 2 on the Canon R5 vs the new BaseLUTs 2.0, you will notice that the colors and saturation levels are more accurate especially when comparing to other Canon cameras filming in that same profile. We noticed varying differences that are not accounted for in our original BaseLUTs or Color Space Transforms. These new BaseLUTs will be the most color accurate conversions available on the market because of their attention to each camera at the sensor level. We have also fine-tuned the Tone Mapping of each BaseLUT to better handle highly saturated colors and reduce any color clamping or clipping for Display Referred workflows.
