  • In this class I’ll take you candidly through my photography journey starting with my very first camera and lens upgrade to the setup I use today! I’ll dive into: DSLRs, Lenses, Speedlight Flash, Tripods, Bags, Memory Cards, File Storage, Editing Programs, and Client Galleries.  This class is for beginner to intermediate photographers looking for resources or guidance toward making their next gear upgrade. I talk in-depth about various prime lenses and share current pricing on a handful of DSLRs in the market today and sites you can use to compare products. I mostly shoot NIKON DSLRs but I do touch quickly on current Canon bodies as well and how I recommend finding the right equipment for you.

  • In the comprehensive Skillshare class "Building a Complete Photography Kit: Cameras, Lenses, Storage and Tools," professional photographer Tabitha Park provides an essential roadmap for beginner and intermediate photographers looking to navigate the often-overwhelming world of camera gear. Spanning approximately 76 minutes, the course is designed to help students move beyond the "gear envy" stage by offering a candid look at the instructor’s own professional evolution—from her very first camera to the sophisticated kit she uses today.
  • The curriculum is meticulously organized into modules that cover every physical and digital component of a modern photography workflow. Park begins with a breakdown of DSLR and Mirrorless camera bodies, providing a balanced comparison between brands like Nikon and Canon while discussing the practicalities of current market pricing. A significant portion of the class is dedicated to lenses, where she explores the distinct advantages of prime lenses (such as 35mm, 85mm, and 105mm) versus zoom lenses. By explaining focal lengths and apertures in a relatable way, she empowers students to make informed decisions based on their specific artistic goals rather than just technical specifications.
  • Beyond the camera itself, the course dives into the "supporting cast" of equipment that often gets overlooked. This includes accessories like speedlight flashes, tripods, and even the best types of bags for transporting delicate gear. Crucially, Park addresses the digital backend of the craft, covering storage solutions, memory cards, and the essential editing programs required to polish images. She also touches on client galleries, providing insight into how a professional delivers finished work to customers.
  • The class culminates in a hands-on project centered on the art of Knolling. Students are encouraged to organize and photograph their own gear or curated items in an aesthetic, overhead layout. This project serves a dual purpose: it allows students to take inventory of their own tools while practicing composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.
