RED Apple Workflow Release – Plug-in for importing Red camera footage into FCPX (for Mac)

Version 22, FCP Plug-in changes:

Extended Highlights are always decoded in IPP2
Improved IPP2 out-of-gamut color mapping
Improved IPP2 high ISO black level consistency
Fixed: Monochrome decoding
Fixed: Early firmware KOMODO footage is green
Fixed: Metal texture + Legacy decoding

You can import and work with REDCODE RAW (R3D) files in Final Cut Pro.
RAW format video files require certain additional steps before and after import.
After importing R3D RAW files, you can make non-destructive color correction adjustments directly within Final Cut Pro.
Importing REDCODE RAW (R3D) Files

1 Install the plug-in.
For Final Cut Pro to recognize R3D RAW files, you must download and install the plug-in. For more information, visit http://www.red.com. (The plug-in download is provided below.)

2 Import the media.

Important: When you import this media, be sure to deselect the Create Optimized Media and Create Proxy Media options, because any transcoding work done during the import process will be discarded if you adjust the RAW settings in the next step.
For more information on importing media, see “Importing from a File-Based Camera” on page 19 and “Importing from a Hard Drive” on page 30. For more information on transcoding media, see “Transcoding Media Files” on page 350.

Note: If you are importing files from a RED ONE camera, it is recommended that you import only R3D RAW files. RED ONE cameras typically generate a set of up to four QuickTime reference movie (.mov) files for each R3D RAW file. If you select both an R3D file and a reference movie during import, Final Cut Pro imports only the R3D file. If you need to import a reference movie, select only the reference movie, not the R3D file.

3 Adjust RAW settings (with Final Cut Pro or with an external application such as REDCINE-X PRO).
You can apply nondestructive “single-light” color correction to R3D RAW clips immediately after import to give the footage a more finished look for editing and auditioning.
If your professional production includes complex color correction needs, you can revisit these RAW settings at the finishing stage. For more information, see “Adjusting RED RAW Settings” below.
