Enter one of the following keywords: PivotCharts, PivotTable, Add-In, PowerPivot, PowerView, PowerQuery, PowerMap, etc.

The PivotTable chapter will answer the basic question “Why do you want to use a PivotTable?” Once you understand “why,” you will have a deeper appreciation for its capabilities. PivotTables are very similar in all versions; however, new features have been added to Excel 2013 and 2016. The following topics will be covered:

Filtering - This will allow you to focus on required records and reduce the amount of data available.
Formatting - This will review many Excel formatting features as well as some custom PivotTable commands.
PivotCharts - This will allow you to chart information for better understanding.
Layout Adjustments - This will allow you to arrange and adjust fields in order to focus on the most valuable information.
Calculations - Calculations can be internal or external to the PivotTable.
The Business Intelligence tools include The PowerPivot, PowerView, PowerQuery and PowerMap. They are Add-In features in Excel 2010/2013 which means they must be downloaded from the Microsoft website, installed on your computer, and added using the Add-In feature in the Excel Options menu. In Excel 2016, they are a standard Add-In feature which means you do not need to download and install. All of these tools will provide the capabilities to analyze data and better understand information in an Excel workbook. The following topics will be covered:
PowerPivot - Students will need to understand PivotTables in order to use the PowerPivot features effectively. This is a technique used to create relationships between sheets similar to Access databases.
PowerView - This is a new way to generate reports from an Excel sheet.
PowerQuery - This is a tool used to extract and filter information from a data source prior to saving to an Excel sheet.
PowerMap - This is a technique used to build charts on a map of the world indicating population or revenue.

Design Strategy
This workbook is designed in conjunction with an Online-Instructor-Led course (for more information see: www.elearnlogic.com). There are many Step-By-Step Practice Exercises and more comprehensive Student Projects offered to help students better understand concepts. Furthermore, they will find that this workbook/guide can often be used as a reference to help them understand concepts quickly and thoroughly. An index is also provided on the last page to reference important topics as necessary. However, if more detail is needed for study, the Internet can be used, as well, to search a concept. Also, if student’s skills are weak due to lack of implementation, they can refresh their knowledge quickly by visually scanning concepts of choice, and then testing them out using the application.
