If you set earlier (previous) version of Mac OS X, than it was on, your computer may exhibit unexpected behavior, such as:
- The trackpad or mouse may not respond properly
- Your computer may stop responding
- Sleep / Wake issues may occur
- The display image may appear on the "reduction" with black bars around it, you may be tinted or have any other questions
- Loss of built-in audio
- Loss of Bluetooth or AirPort functionality
- Can not begin until the last Apple logo

If you install the earlier Mac OS X version of Disk
If the warning message appears stating you are using the wrong drive, then you should not try to use the disk to your Mac.
If you already have a previous version of Mac OS X and having problems with your computer, you must reinstall Mac OS X from the installation disk (s) that comes with the Mac (or use the installation discs that contain later, compatible version of Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server). Refer to the instructions attached to your computer for more information.
If you are trying to restore a backup copy of Time Machine, which was made at the various Mac
If you received a warning that your Time Machine backup from an older Mac OS X version (or, if you know your Time Machine backup to another Mac, that using the earlier Mac OS X versions than what comes with the Mac) you have to use Migration Assistant, to move information through instead of reconstruction. See "Restoring the entire system from a backup copy of this article.
In Mac OS X v10.6.3 and higher, if you are trying to restore a backup copy of Time Machine, which was set up at various Mac, you can get this warning: "You can not restore this backup, since it was created by another model of Mac". See "Restoring the entire system from a backup copy of this article.
Important: Even if one version of the system software may be identical to the version number to another, the software may not be exactly the same. For example, you can have a retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 installation disk and the computer may have come with Mac OS X 10.5. Your computer may have additional software specific to it included in its software CD (Mac OS X 10.5), which can not be present on the retail Mac OS X 10.5 disc. Be sure to use the original software discs that came with the computer when the reinstall Mac OS X, if you install the new version (such as installing a retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 to Mac compatible, that comes with Mac OS X 10.4 fine). This is particularly important in the creation and installation of custom disk images.
